Il Gambero Rosso

Il Gambero Rosso (the red shrimp) is a species native to the mediterranean waters, in particular around the coast of Sicily. This shrimp is bright red in color and much sweeter in taste than the shrimps we are used to in the US. Being that Castellammare Del Golfo, is a fishing town, nonno went down to the marina this morning to buy some fresh for lunch! They are delicious with nothing on them, just grilled but also can be marinated easily with some garlic, olive oil and lemon, simple! In many of the restaurants throughout Sicily, you will find these on the menu served as an entree or my favorite, with pasta. One of the most delicious plates I had was busiate with pistachio, shrimp and a light cream sauce at La Tavernetta!! #yummy
